(Such extravagant bloomers were necessary, he claimed, because of his very sensitive skin.) Today, 48 years ago, President John F Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas. 

I’m sure you can find better recountings of that day than I could provide, and I’m not much for considering conspiracy theories either. I choose to remember how people lived, not how they died.

President Lyndon B. Johnson and Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. meet at the White House, March 18, 1966. My father has a large version of this framed in his house, and I’m always struck by the look on both the faces of Dr. King and LBJ.  Sadly, it would be only a few years later we lost both King and Johnson, two of the most consequential people in modern American history.

General Winter, as the infamously brutal winters of Russia have been called by invading armies down through history. General Winter is probably the reason Russia has never been conquered. Pieces of the country have been occupied by the Mongols, the Germans, even the French…but in the end it never lasts, and many people believe its because no one can withstand the winters in Russia, which really are more brutal than anyplace on Earth where people actually live.
